The Be The Change, Be Resilient Grant is offered once a term (Jan - May, Jun - Dec) to teachers who are interested in bringing service learning projects to life in your classroom with a focus on building student and community resilience.  A maximum amount of $1000 may be awarded per project for teachers to use in the implementation of their projects.

***NEW ROLLING DEADLINE***

What is Resilience?

For this grant, we define resilience as:

"The process and outcome of successfully adapting to difficult or challenging life experiences, especially through mental, emotional, and behavioral flexibility and adjustment to external and internal demands."

Resilience is not just about bouncing back; it involves developing the skills to face challenges head-on and grow from them. This grant aims to help you foster these essential skills in your students through meaningful service learning experiences.

What's This Grant All About?

We are offering funding (up to $1,000) to help you design and implement service learning projects that enhance your students' resilience while addressing real community needs. These projects should provide opportunities for students to engage with challenges and develop their ability to adapt and thrive.

Who Can Apply?

Checks will be written and mailed to the applicant school. Expenditures may include:

  • Pre K-16 teachers (grades pre K through 16)

  • Non-profit groups involving students and educators (community educators)

What We're Looking For

  1. Integrate resilience-building activities into your existing curriculum.

  2. Address an identified community need (e.g., homelessness, environmental stewardship, education).

  3. Actively involve students in the design, development, and implementation of the project.

  4. Include activities clearly linked to curricular and service learning standards and identified learning objectives.

  5. Demonstrate sustained effort over a minimum of four weeks.

Successful projects should reflect key concepts of resilience, such as:

  • Adaptability: Design activities that challenge students to adjust to new situations or unexpected changes.

  • Problem-solving: Include opportunities for students to develop creative solutions to community issues.

  • Emotional regulation: Incorporate reflection exercises that help students process and manage their emotions.

  • Social support:  Encourage teamwork and community connections to build supportive networks.
